Mike Young is one of those rare people who is competent, successful both in business and wants to use his time to actually make a positive impact in this world.
After taking over his family’s company and having a very successful career coupled with community service outreach, he became the Chairman of the Board for a nonprofit he wanted to see thrive.
He first engaged in a three month coaching experience to understand his patterns through the lens of the Enneagram. Mike asked himself questions like,
“Why, after years of success and a wonderful family, do I feel foggy as to how to invest my future?” and “Where is my thinking getting in the way of more authentic relationships?”
Mike concluded Sway coaching with a revitalized direction for his life. He was also able to see his ego-patterns according to the Enneagram- a tool which he will continue to use for years to come!
Upon learning about the power of the Enneagram framework, Mike brought the Enneagram personality assessment to the Board he was a chairman for. This group of leaders didn’t want to “talk the walk”, but “walk the walk” and live out the values the organization possessed around leadership. This was something they identified they historically had not done well so they felt compelled to actively do the work to change this culture.
The B.O.D. first engaged with learning the Enneagram by reading and taking the Online Enneagram as a Leadership Tool, 101 Course. This sparked a curiosity to learn how to work more cohesively with one another.
At their Fall 2021 board retreat, we conducted surveys and asked a lot of questions around their shared vision and places the team was misaligned. During the in-person retreat, the board studied Intelligence Center Theory and shared their own stories in regard to their Ennea-types. The result was a powerful one leaving the board unified and excited for their strategy work together the upcoming year. Sway received feedback that they were buzzing about the Enneagram teachings the days following the workshop.
